Growing Cotton
First things first, cotton needs to grow. Farmers plant cotton seeds in large fields. It takes several months of sunshine and watering for the cotton plants to fully grow.
Harvesting Cotton
But once the cotton plants are mature, big machines go into the fields and pick all the fluffy cotton balls.
Cleaning Cotton
Then the picked cotton goes through a machine that cleans it and gets rid of all the unnecessary bits like seeds, leaves, and twigs.
Spinning Yarn
Next, the cleaned cotton gets spun into yarn. It goes through a spinning machine that twists and turns it until it becomes long strands of yarn.
Knitting Yarn
The yarn is then knit or woven into fabric. Imagine a giant sewing machine going back and forth super fast, creating a big sheet of fabric.
Dying Yarn
If the garments is going to be any color other than white, the yarn will be dyed. Big vats of color are used to soak the yarn until it changes to the desired shade.
Cutting & Sewing
Designers cut out pieces of fabric based on garment patterns. Then, these pieces are sewn together to create the garment.
Quality Checks
Before it can be sent to stores, each garment goes through a quality check to make sure there are no defects or issues.
Packaging
Finally, the garments get folded, packed in boxes, and shipped to stores or directly to customers.
